Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE)
We have a flourishing DofE programme enjoyed by many students throughout Years 10 - 13, co-ordinated by one of our most experienced PE teachers, Miss A Lord. Students achieve an Award (either Bronze, Silver or Gold) by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five for Gold). These sections are:
Volunteering - helping someone, your community or the environment
Physical - becoming fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities
Skills - developing existing talents or trying something new
Expedition - planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey
Residential (Gold only) - staying and working away from home as part of a team
All achievements for each activity are recorded on eDofE by students uploading documents/photos to their personal account (they are provided with a username and password), which are then approved by the school's assessor to complete the award. You can see provisional dates of expeditions on the School Calendar.
The length of time you have to spend on each section depends on the level of programme you're doing. You can read more from the DofE website: http://www.dofe.org/. |

Miss A Lord's message to current students:
"Are you the type of person that has a real zeal for life? Do you enjoy helping people, learning new skills or improving ones you already have, keeping physically active and most of all enjoy the outdoors? If you have said yes to most or all of these then DofE is for you.
To find information, or links to information, regarding DofE you can log in to the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) to help you make your decision about starting the scheme. When you have decided you want to take on the challenge of completing an award, or have any questions, please contact me in the PE dept, lorda@damealiceowens.herts.sch.uk" |
Further information for current parents and students can be found on the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). Log-in via the link above, click on Departments, then Extra Curricular Activities, then Duke of Edinburgh. Parents are reminded that they share log-in and password details with their child.
